Hola! My name is Mrs. Tracie Galvis. My background in Spanish is a little unique. I did not enjoy my Spanish high school experience. A teacher can make or break your passion and love for a subject. On May 20, 1999, exactly one month after the Columbine shooting, a boy entered my high school and took aim at us shooting several of my classmates. It changed my life forever, but I am happy to say, for the better. An organization called Samaritan’s Purse came to my school and chose to take me with a few students from Columbine down to El Salvador and Honduras to hand out shoe boxes filled with Christmas toys for children who had never received a Christmas present. This experience made me fall in love with the people, culture, and language from these countries. I knew that I wanted to learn Spanish. I attended Berry College and graduated with a double major in Education and Spanish. In my city there were no Spanish teaching jobs so I took a job at a local tax software company where I traveled the USA teaching the IRS and accountants in both English and Spanish how to use the tax software. During these years, I met my husband who is from Colombia, South America. When we had our first daughter, I transitioned jobs to work as an office manager at a church. During those years I taught Spanish at a local college at night and went into different elementary, middle and high schools to teach. I have also been to Mexico, Peru, and Colombia many times through various opportunities. I have been blessed many times to help a group of doctors who travel to Latin America by
translating for them to help people in very poor areas of the world. My husband’s job recently transferred us to Woodstock, GA. We have a 6 year old girl and a 1.5 year old little girl. My two biggest passions in life are my family and education. In my free time I go hiking with my family, biking and running. We love to travel as much as we can to experience new people and cultures. I have taught and worked in many schools in different cities and Etowah High School is one of the best. I am so excited to be here and get to share my passion with an amazing group of students!
Thanks!
Mrs. Tracie Galvis
